Jillian has extensive expertise in intellectual property law. Jillian holds a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Law degree from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the International Commission of Jurists, underscoring her commitment to the legal profession and continuous professional development.
Notable Assignments
- Represented the Teacher’s Service Commission before the Court of Appeal challenging the decision of the Employment and Labour Relations Court to convert a constitutional petition to an economic dispute, the jurisdiction of a court to conduct both conciliation and adjudication, and whether an employee may participate in a strike or fock-out without giving notice.
- Representing an embassy and advising on diplomatic immunity with respect to employment and constitutional claims in Kenya.
- Advised on conducting disciplinary hearings based on allegations of sexual harassment and the rights of the accused person and the protection of the accusers.
- Advised an international financial institution on redrafting of contracts related to foreign employees who were to join the institution. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the employees were required to work from their countries of origin and the client required advice on the employment law implications in Kenya.
- Represented a multinational company before the Supreme Court in a matter relating to the award of a tender for the printing and supply new design of the Kenyan currency.
- Conducted industry specific webinars on the impact of Covid-19 on employment relationships in various fields including but not limited to hospitality, agribusiness and a various non governmental organisations.
- Involved in a number of arbitration and mediation proceedings and settlement negotiations with respect to debt restructuring, renewal and termination of leases
